Starglow Media is looking to close a gap in the co-listening market with podcasts and audiobooks.

Former UTA exec Jed Baker is the founder and CEO of the LA-based audio company, which officially launches today and specializes in multi-genre content such as edutainment, bedtime stories and current affairs. Baker brings an in-depth knowledge of the audio space, having previously repped the likes of Wondery, iHeart and Audible.

The company has set the ball rolling with five kids titles already acquired for its initial roster: Stories Podcast and its Sleep Series offshoot (Wondery Kids); the educational Who Smarted? (Atomic Entertainment) with science and history facts; a news podcast called KidNuz (KidzNuz); and Girl Tales (Cordelia Studios), which retells fairytales with a feminist twist. Plans are underway to license more content and also commission originals, which it will announce later this year.

Starglow’s content will target the three to 12 demo and their families, a group that is looking for more audio content, according to a report from Edison Research published last month.

“Kids and family is the fastest growing genre in audio at the moment due to 71% of US parents saying they’re concerned their child is spending too much time on screens,” Baker added in a release, citing data from Pew Research Center. “Audio is the perfect alternative, but right now there is far too little content being provided.”

Building out its team, Starglow has tapped kids podcast consultant Agerenesh Ashagre Palmer as VP of operations. Previously an executive producer at Brooklyn’s Pineapple Street Studios (The Catch and Kill Podcast with Ronan Farrow), her most recent credit was the Keyshawn Solves It podcast from GBH Kids, which targets the five to nine demo.

UTA reps Starglow Media and is also an investor in the company alongside  Powerhouse Capital, Watertower Ventures, BDMI, K5, Parcast founder Max Cutler and Jenna Bush Hager’s banner Thousand Voices.
