Nickelodeon and CBS Sports are gearing up to score a touchdown when they deliver the first-ever alternate telecast of the Super Bowl for kids and families next year.
The slime- and surprise-filled edition of Super Bowl LVIII will air exclusively on Nickelodeon on February 11, 2024, in tandem with CBS Sports’ coverage of the event on CBS and Paramount+. The show will feature special on-field graphics, virtual filters and guest announcers from across Nickelodeon’s brands. The Nick broadcast will also be distributed in the UK, Australia and New Zealand at a later date, with the aim of growing the NFL and Paramount’s international audience.
This marks the second collaboration between the kidcaster and CBS for this year’s NFL season, with Nick also on deck to air the Nickelodeon NFL Nickmas Game on December 25. Ashley Kaplan, Paul Medford and Luke Wahl will oversee the production of both games for Nickelodeon, with CBS Sports’ Shawn Robbins serving as a coordinating producer.
Nick and CBS have worked together on Nick-ified football games since 2021’s NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon. And the kidcaster’s brands were featured in past games with stunts like SpongeBob-branded goal post graphics during field goal attempts, slime cannons erupting for touchdowns, and Young Sheldon commentating on plays and rulings.
The demand for these family-friendly alternative telecasts continues to grow. Last year’s Wild Card Game brought in more than 41.4 million viewers across CBS Sports and Nickelodeon, a 35% spike from 30.65 million in 2021. It was also the most-watched NFL Wild Card game in seven years.
The goal of the telecast strategy is to introduce a new legion of younger fans to football and the NFL, said CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus in a release.
