LA-based podcast maker Wonkybot Entertainment has partnered with Andrews McMeel Publishing (AMP) to release three new books based on its superhero kids podcast Tara Tremendous.
The Kansas City-based publisher is working on two fiction releases—Tara Tremendous and the Multiverse Mystery and Tara Tremendous and the Dark Matter—as well as graphic novel Tara Tremendous and the Superhero Quest. Podcast creator and Wonkybot co-founder Stewart St. John is writing the books, which will hit retail in 2024 and 2025.
Tara Tremendous centers around a 14-year-old girl who discovers she has the powers of every superhero in the universe. She must learn to control her new abilities while discovering where she comes from.
The graphic novel format is a particularly good fit for the IP because it can show the action-packed adventures in a visual way for the first time, said AMP president and publisher Kirsty Melville in a release.
Wonkybot launched the Tara Tremendous podcast in 2015 and it now has 48 episodes. Two spinoffs called Tremendous Boy and Master Machine focus on the adventures of an 18-year-old boy with powers, and an African-American superhero, respectively. In addition to moving the IP into publishing, Wonkybot announced last year that it’s developing a live-action Tara Tremendous musical movie.
“Tara’s coming-of-age-story and intergalactic adventures have struck a chord with listeners around the world, and now readers will get a chance to immerse themselves in a whole new way,” said St. John.
