Toronto’s marblemedia has started production on a new live-action comedy series called Davey & Jonesie’s Locker (pictured) for Prime Video Canada and Hulu.
The 10 x 30-minute laugher targets teens and follows two female BFFs who have trouble fitting in at their high school. Adventure ensues when they discover a locker that contains a portal to a parallel universe where they and their classmates become bizarre and offbeat versions of themselves.
Canadian comedian and actor Evany Rosen created the series concept and is also showrunning and executive producing. Her writing credits include sitcoms for major Canadian broadcasters and platforms such as CBC (Baroness Von Sketch Show), Crave (New Eden) and CTV (The Spencer Sisters).
Also on board as executive producers are longtime marblemedia execs A.J. Trauth (Bite Size Halloween) and Carrie Paupst Shaughnessy (Lie with Me), along with Diane Rankin (Best in Miniature), marblemedia’s co-CEO Mark Bishop (Splatalot), Matt Hornburg (Splatalot) and Stephanie Kaliner (Odd Squad), who is also one of a few screenwriters.
Davey & Jonesie’s Locker stands out from other for-teen projects because Rosen focuses on girl humor and the sisterhood between the two besties, says Trauth. “Evany is a dynamic storyteller and has an uncanny ability to marry unique, funny and compelling characters with an intricately crafted high-concept hook.”
