Sky has inked a new deal with global distributor CAKE to broadcast YouTube Originals series Super Sema in the UK.

The pubcaster has picked up all three seasons of the 2D-animated toon (42 x 11 minutes), which will launch on its Sky Kids app and linear channel on August 14. Based in London and Nairobi, Kukua produces Super Sema, which CAKE distributes worldwide.

Since launching on YouTube in 2021, the series has generated more than 115 million views across five language channels. It stars Sema and her twin brother MB, who use science and technology to defeat the villain Tobor and his army of mini-bots. The IP also offers a variety of short-form content for preschoolers, including animated vlogs, live-action craft vids, STEAM tutorials and experiments.

Last year, Super Sema broke into consumer products for the first time, with Florida-based Just Play rolling out a line of toys Stateside in time for the holiday season. And a range of children’s books from Penguin Random House is on deck to launch in the US later in 2023. Macmillan Children’s Books will replicate this effort in the UK next year, with London-based apparel manufacturer Poetic Brands contributing soft lines and luggage.
