Amazon Kids+ and Prime Video have ordered a 24 x 11-minute series called Angry Birds Mystery Island from Rovio and LA-based animation studio Titmouse.
Instead of going on an all-expenses-paid vacation as a contest prize, three birds are catapulted onto an uncharted island in this franchise spinoff. They must then unravel the island’s secrets in order to survive and make it home. Mystery Island will premiere on Prime Video and the Amazon Kids+ platform for three- to 12-year-olds, but a launch date has not been set yet. The show is aimed at kids six and up.
Writer Eric Rogers (Skylanders Academy, Polly Pocket) is the showrunner and an executive producer on the series, along withTitmouse EPs Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski and Ben Kalima.
Amazon Kids+ has been stocking up on big-brand content lately, and this new Angry Birds show will join recent acquisitions Blippi and Hello Kitty in its catalogue. Spanning more than a dozen games, a series from Rovio and CAKE, game spinoffs and two feature films, the Angry Birds IP’s success attracted gaming giant SEGA, which is purchasing Rovio for US$776 million in a deal that should close in Q3.
The brand’s co-viewing potential, and the enduring popularity of its games, make it ripe for new content, said Veronica Pickett (Amazon Kids+ head of original series) and Melissa Wolfe (Amazon Studios’ head of animation) in a release.
