French prodco Gaumont has promoted Terry Kalagian to oversee its entire kids & family animation unit out of Paris, giving the longtime entertainment exec more creative control.
In her new role as president of global animation for kids & family, which she stepped into last week, Kalagian will be responsible for overseeing global operations for the animation business out of its French headquarters. She reports to Gaumont vice-CEO Christophe Riandee.
This is a key change in remit for Kalagian, who previously served as EVP of both scripted and animation in Gaumont’s LA office. During her time here, overseeing popular kids series such as Stillwater (Apple TV+) and Do, Re & Mi (Amazon Prime Video).
Gaumont is consolidating its animation business in France in order to better connect with both European buyers and US companies that are expanding internationally. Nicolas Atlan, president of Gaumont US, will continue to oversee all scripted operations in North America, Latin America and Spain.
Kalagian joined Gaumont in 2016 as SVP of creative development for animation & family. She started her career with a decade-long run at Cartoon Network from 1996 to 2006, serving as an acquisitions VP and creative executive. She also previously headed up business development at Mainframe (formerly Rainmaker Entertainment) in Canada.
Gaumont is looking to ramp up its TV and film pipeline this year, and already has a pair of Indigenous-inspired series concepts with rapper Taboo in the works—Journey’s Farm (52 x 11 minutes) and KB & JJ (78 x seven minutes).
