Kids TV’s most absorbent and porous and yellow screen idol will star in one of two new animated movies that Netflix is set to release in 2024.
Nickelodeon Animation’s Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie (pictured) will see Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob travel to Texas to save Bikini Bottom from yet another evil plot. Liza Johnson (The Last of Us) has been tapped to direct, with Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller executive producing. Screenwriters on the project include Kazimieras “Kaz” Gediminus (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Tom Stern (The Toys That Made Us).
The second new kids project to join Netflix’s animated feature pipeline is Kuku Studios’ comedy adventure In Your Dreams, starring two polar-opposite siblings who travel to the world of dreams to find the Sandman, who is the giver of dreams and can help them save their parents’ marriage. Alex Woo (Go! Go! Cory Carson) is co-directing with Erik Benson (The Good Dinosaur), and Gregg Taylor (Austin Powers in Goldmember) and Tim Hahn are locked in as producers.
Other animated films that Netflix plans to drop in 2024 include Locksmith Animation’s That Christmas, which follows a series of interwoven stories about love, loneliness and family; and Mikros Animation’s Thelma the Unicorn, about a pony who dreams of becoming a music star.
