Canada’s YMA launches an internship booster

The Steven DeNure Children's Content Internship is looking for mentoring companies to match its investment and create annual placements for up-and-comers in the industry.

Named after one of Canada’s most influential kids media executives, the Steven DeNure Children’s Content Internship program is seeking partners to help give talented creatives a leg up in the industry.

The program was created by Montreal’s Youth Media Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating greater diversity in children’s entertainment. YMA is contributing US$3,300 (CAD$4,500) towards one or two 12-week paid internships each year for the next three or four years, and it’s looking for companies that can match this amount and host a placement.

Each partner company will be responsible for finding their intern and assigning them tasks that will help them develop skills in kids content strategy, development, writing, production and marketing.

YMA will open a call for applications from mentoring companies each spring, with a May 15 deadline. Companies must be YMA members, and they will be evaluated on their ability to offer potential interns the best opportunities to enhance their skills through hands-on experience.

Funding for the program comes from YMA members DeNure and Marlowe Stone, as well as member companies 9 Story Media Group, CMPA, marblemedia, Sinking Ship Entertainment, WildBrain, Breakthrough Entertainment and Portfolio Entertainment. Fund namesake DeNure is one of Canada’s most prominent children’s entertainment executives, having helmed companies including Decode Entertainment and WildBrain.
