Reviving one of its most lucrative IPs after more than a decade out of the spotlight, Lionsgate Television is developing a series based on the vampiric teen fantasy franchise Twilight (pictured).

Twilight originated as a YA book series by author Stephenie Meyer that was adapted for the screen in five installments, and released annually from 2008 to 2012. The movies—known as The Twilight Saga—collectively earned more than US$3.4 billion at the global box office. Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment distributed and produced the pics with various co-pro partners including Temple Hill, Imprint and Maverick Films.

The franchise centers on the love triangle between a teen girl, a vampire and a werewolf. It’s not yet known if Lionsgate’s TV series will serve as a remake of this premise or take a different approach entirely.

Sinead Daly (The Get Down) is penning the script, while Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig will executive produce. Feig formerly served as co-president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, as well as president of Summit.

Little, Brown and Company published Meyer’s Twilight books, selling more than 160 million copies worldwide. The series cultivated a large fanbase of younger readers, earning honors such as the 2008 British Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year and the 2009 Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Book.

This project aligns with a broader industry trend towards teen-skewing content, joining a host of book properties that have reboots and revivals underway—from Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games returning with a November-launching prequel movie, to a Harry Potter TV remake that Warner Bros. Discovery announced last week
