BBC has hired former Sixteen South producer Gillian Burke as its new assistant commissioner of kids content for Northern Ireland.

Burke’s remit covers animated kids content for ages zero to 12 in the region. She’s based in Northern Ireland and reports to Kate Morton, head of BBC Children’s commissioning and acquisitions for zero- to six-year-olds.

This role is a one-year placement, and Burke started in January. This is the fourth round of the BBC’s assistant commissioner program, which has developed multiple executives who have gone on to work at the BBC and Channel 5 as commissioners, according to a release.

Before joining the BBC, Burke worked as a line producer on Sixteen South’s PBS KIDS show Pinkalicious & Peterrific. She was also previously a production coordinator at Ireland’s Lighthouse Studios (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie).

Burke was hired along with six other assistant commissioners who will work across the UK in segments such as factual, documentaries and scripted.
