Toronto’s 9 Story Media Group is teaming up with Canadian youth conservation organization Earth Rangers to expand its eco-themed brand with new TV and audio content.

Under their development deal, 9 Story and Earth Rangers are creating an animated comedy series and a podcast (six episodes between eight and 10 minutes long) that will both tackle environmental themes in a kid-friendly way.

Targeting ages six to nine, the content will be specifically designed for co-viewing/co-listening in order to empower families to protect the environment and help them manage their eco-anxiety.

9 Story’s VP of development Karen Fowler (Rosie’s Rules) is heading up the animated series project, with Mark Steinberg (Hotel Transylvania) and Nelu Handa (Odd Squad) attached as head writer and story consultant, respectively.

Reflecting on a decade of producing preschool series Wild Kratts for PBS KIDS, 9 Story’s president/CEO Vince Commisso emphasized that kids are passionate about ecological issues at a young age. “Our goal with this partnership is to reach a slightly older audience and help maintain this passion for animals and the environment,” he said in a release.

Commisso is also a board member for Earth Rangers, which expanded its programs and membership-based app into the US last month. Since launching in 2004, the organization has focused on educating kids about biodiversity and nature conservation through school assemblies and podcasts (pictured) on topics like animal facts and climate change.
