Project X Entertainment and Titmouse have acquired the TV rights to Serena Minott’s popular kids book series The Amazing Adventures of Aya & Pete, and the California-based studios are working on an animated series concept that will encourage kids and families to explore different cultures.
Targeting kids ages three to eight, the four-book series is published by Ashima and chronicles the adventures of a little girl and her talking stuffed animal as they travel the world with her parents. Its stories are inspired by the author’s own travels with her daughter, with a focus on values such as curiosity, global citizenry and inclusion.
Each book features a different destination, highlighting its geography, language and food. In the first title, which was first published in 2018, Aya and Pete practice their French and sample the local cuisine in Paris. Later in the series, they make stops in London, New York City and Mexico.
In addition to the books, the brand boasts a collection of toys and games that educate kids about global geography, languages, foods, currencies, landmarks and cultures. There’s also an app from Ashima called Aya & Pete. Play. Learn. Explore that’s available on Apple’s App Store. It features interactive games to help kids learn the French language, numbers, shapes and colors, and explore France’s art and geography.
Project X’s EVP of TV Nicole Tossou will helm the animated series project, with her colleagues William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein producing alongside Minott and Titmouse.
