Netflix scores 50 nods at the Annie Awards

The streamer's films Pinocchio and The Sea Beast were shortlisted 15 times combined, and Disney racked up 21 nominations in total.

Netflix is heading to the 50th annual Annie Awards with a whopping 50 nominations for its animated films and TV series.

The streamer’s content was shortlisted in categories including Best Feature, Best FX (Feature), Best Music (Feature) and Best Production Design (Feature). And its films Pinocchio (nine nominations), The Sea Beast (six) and Wendell & Wild (three) did especially well. 

Disney got  21 nods in categories such as Best Feature, Best TV/Media–Preschool, Best TV/Media–Children and Best FX (Feature). Its top-nominated films were Turning Red (seven) and Baymax! (three). Avatar: The Way of Water was shortlisted twice, as was Lightyear.

Other films to score multiple nominations include DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (six) and DreamWorks’ outlaw animal series The Bad Guys (five).

The Annie Awards ceremony will take place in LA on February 25. Here are the nominees in five high-profile kids content categories, with a complete list available online.
