Warner Bros. Discovery’s streamer HBO Max has dropped 256 episodes of Looney Tunes in its latest effort to cut costs and “adjust” its kids and animation investment.
Seasons 16 to 31 of the 2D-animated Warner Bros. classic featuring cartoon icons such as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck were pulled from the platform at the end of 2022. HBO Max also confirmed that it’s not renewing its license for seasons four, five and six of The Flintstones (78 episodes). WBD’s Hanna-Barbera produced this 2D-animated ’60s sitcom about TV’s most famous Stone Age family.
These cuts are in keeping with WBD’s shift away from focusing on its kids and animation portfolio, which the company has said does not provide strong enough ROI. However, HBO Max did recently renew Warner Bros. Animation’s preschool series Batwheels for a second season. It centers around anthropomorphized versions of famous Batman vehicles, such as the Batmobile and the Batgirl cycle, as they protect Gotham City. WBD says the CG-animated series was the most-watched preschool series on HBO Max following its premiere in September,
