Paris-based 2 Minutes and Label Anim have teamed up to create a new production company called Madgic that will concentrate on developing animated series and feature films for kids, and it already has three starter projects in the works.

On the film side of the slate, Madgic is developing The Character of Rain, about a two-year-old Belgian girl who believes she can make plants grow and cross the sea on foot; and The Legendaries, featuring a group of heroes from different backgrounds adventuring  in a medieval world. And for TV, The Scarlet Rose is an animated series concept for kids ages 10 and up about a young girl who must face the death of her father and also a diabolical plot against her.

The plan is for Jean-Michel Spiner (president and co-founder of 2 Minutes) to serve as the CEO of Madgic, which will have its own headquarters (location TBD). And both 2 Minutes and Label Anim will continue to operate independently.

“In sharing creativity and maximizing synergies, Madgic will be able to cover all aspects of kids and family programming—series and movies, original programming, co-production and subcontracting for other producers,” says Label Anim co-founder Guillaume Galliot.

The new company will also make documentaries and informational programming for adults.

In the past, 2 Minutes and Label Anim have collaborated to produce around 250 hours of animation and 100 hours of non-fiction content for leading European broadcasters such as TF1, France Télévisions, Canal+, M6, Arte, C8, RMC Découverte and National Geographic. Kids shows on their co-pro resumé include animated series Zak Jinks (pictured, 52 x 11 minutes) and Magic Planet, about three children who travel the world in a teleporting balloon to learn more about animals.

In terms of their solo credits, Label Anim has produced animated series such as Kung-Foot and Les P’tits Cuistots, as well as feature film My Mommy Is in America and She Met Buffalo Bill. And in 2 Minutes’ portfolio are Calamity, Memories of Nanette, Ernest & Rebecca and Yakari.
