Brit free-to-air channel Tiny POP has picked up Billy the Cowboy Hamster from French distributor Dandelooo.
The 2D-animated series (52 x 11 minutes) follows along with Billy as he roams the Wild West in search of thrills and cowboy adventures with his earthworm and ferret sidekicks. Dandelooo’s studio OoOlala is co-producing the project with Belgium-based Digital Graphix, Atmosphere Media and pubcaster RTBF.
France Télévisions commissioned the series for four to sevens in 2019. Super RTL (Germany), DRTV (Denmark), SVT (Sweden), RTS (Switzerland), NRK (Norway) and TV5 Monde (France) pre-bought the show in 2021.
Billy the Cowboy Hamster is based on a successful book series by Catharina Valckx. Originally published in French by Paris-based L’École des loisirs, it has sold more than a million copies and been translated into multiple languages, including Italian, Spanish and Japanese.
Slated to air on Tiny POP next May, Cowboy Hamster joins season one of The MiniWhats and season two of Gus, The Itsy Bitsy Knight—both of which the channel also picked up in recent months for 2023.
In addition to distributing Cowboy Hamster, Dandelooo has been busy finalizing deals for other 2D-animated series in time for MIPCOM. Most recently, the company sold Fantastic Antics to UK broadcaster Da Vinci Media this week. And last month, it picked up global sales rights to Prague-based Bionaut’s Our Piggy.
