Literary classic The Three Musketeers will entertain a new generation of kids in a girl-powered, CG-animated series for ZDF, France TV and RAI.
Produced by France’s Mediawan and its Italian production company Palomar (Mediawan), the series (52 x 11 minutes, pictured) is aimed at children ages five to eight and features the iconic swashbucklers as girls adventuring through France trying to defend the young King Louis XIII. Like the original male heroes, their names are D’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, but their identity remains a secret to their enemies.
The series will premiere in 2024 on France Télévisions, ZDF in Germany and Italy’s public broadcaster RAI. Olivier Pérouze (Robin Hood: Mischief in Sherwood) is producing with Stéphane Mit (Rabbids Invasion) directing.
The Three Musketeershas been adapted for film and TV more than 60 times. Its last big-screen reboot, The Three Musketeers (2011), was produced by Summit Entertainment, Impact Pictures and Constantin Film, and grossed US$132.2 million worldwide. The novel was published in 1844 by Alexander Dumas.
This is the second time Mediawan and Palomar have produced a CG-animated series together. The first was The Enchanted Village of Pinocchio in 2019.
