UK-based Guinness World Records is launching GWR Studios, a new production arm that will focus on developing content for broadcasters and digital platforms. The division is also interested in developing new kids and family content, a spokesperson confirmed to Kidscreen.
The studio will be helmed by Karen Gilchrist (VP of television and digital) and Kathryn Hubbard (head of content licensing). Before joining Guinness in 2018, Gilchrist’s background before Guinness was in newspaper publishing, and Hubbard used to work in sales at Saban Entertainment.
To help bolster the team, Guinness has also hired development producer Kate Monaghan (My Life, The House of Extraordinary People) to manage the new division’s slate of content. This week at MIPCOM, Monaghan unveiled three projects that GWR Studios is developing in-house—short-form series Guinness World Records: Shorts (pictured, 10 x 10 minutes); Best of the Best (22 x 30 minutes), which explores the company’s historic archive of astonishing feats; and Guinness World Records: Gone Viral (20 x 30 minutes), a clip show that touches on a different theme in each episode, such as juggling or acrobatics.
GWR Studios will continue to work with Guinness’s existing production partners to launch a raft of additional projects in the coming months, including children’s clip show Best in the World, produced by UK prodco Electric Robin; and a new season of Banijay Italia reality series Lo Show Dei Record.
