Cue the maniacal laughter! ‘Tis the season for frights and thrills, so it’s fitting that the ABC and BBC have co-commissioned The Spooky Files from Aussie prodcos Tony Ayres Productions (TAP) and Megaboom Pictures.
This new live-action comedy series (10 x 24 minutes) will debut in 2023, airing down under on linear via ABC ME, and in the UK on CBBC and BBC iPlayer. Production is slated to begin next month in London.
Tony Ayres (Nowhere Boys) and Andrea Denholm will serve as executive producers on The Spooky Files for TAP, while Guy Edmonds (Hardball) and Matt Zeremes (Super Awesome!) are penning scripts as lead writers. NBC Universal Distribution will represent the show and manage international sales.
The central theme of The Spooky Files is exploring the fears that children experience while growing up, lightening up on the scares and mysteries with a healthy dose of humor.
