US prodco Hello Sunshine is developing a movie adaptation of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in partnership with Build-A-Bear Entertainment.
This marks the first feature film produced by Hello Sunshine’s kids and animation division, established in 2019 and headed by former Nickelodeon exec Claire Curley. The fairy tale will be modernized with an empowered female lead, a signature of Hello Sunshine’s content to date.
Hello Sunshine is led by actor Reese Witherspoon, who will executive produce with Curley, Build-A-Bear CEO Sharon Price John and Patrick Hughes, CEO of Foundation Media Partners, an entertainment agency and strategic partner to Build-A-Bear.
Hello Sunshine, which is owned by Candle Media, is currently developing Tiny Trailblazers, a Disney Junior animated series about environmental conservation. Meanwhile, Build-A-Bear, which launched its entertainment division in 2019 as well, released its debut film Honey Girls last year. The live actioner, based on its product range of the same name, follows a trio of teen musicians who team up during a talent competition.
The tale of Goldilocks exists in many iterations, but the best-known is the one in which the titular young girl is discovered in the home of a bear family upon their return from an outing. The famous tale was originally written by Eleanor Mure before it underwent family-friendly changes through retellings in the 1800s.
