London-based distributor Serious Kids has acquired worldwide sales rights to CG-animated special The Ghastly Ghoul from Lupus Films and Dream Logic Animation Studios.
Targeting kids ages five to seven, the 30-minute special centers around a monster who gets trapped in the human world, where he forms a friendship with a young girl who loves science. Together, they embark on a Halloween adventure to return the monster back home. The Ghastly Ghoul premieres October 7 in the UK and Ireland on commissioning broadcaster Sky Kids’ linear channel, app and NOW streaming service, before airing in Germany on KiKA.
Emma Hogan is the screenwriter on the special, which is directed by Kealan O’Rourke and Maurizio Parimbelli, with the assistant director Corinne Ladeinde. Producer credits go to Brian Willis and Stephen Smith, with Ruth Fielding and Camilla Deakin executive producing. The MEDIA program of Creative Europe of the European Union and the UK Global Screen Fund participated in the project’s development.
The Ghastly Ghoul joins Serious Kids’ growing catalogue on the heels of recent acquisition Messy Goes to Okido (104 x 11 minutes), a preschool series from Doodle Productions that chronicles the adventures of a monster and his friends.
Sky Kids is also planning to run three other spooky specials in the run-up to October’s main holiday event this month—MC Grammar’s Halloween Party (October 14), KIDZ BOP Haunted Halloween (October 21) and Tom Gates: A Monster Halloween (October 24).
