Doubling down on intergenerational comedy, the BBC has commissioned a new live-action TV movie called Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! from London-based King Bert Productions.

Aimed at kids and families, the 60-minute special is about a kid who finds himself tangled up in a series of robberies he suspects have been committed by his grandmother, a master thief in her day.

Earmarked for BBC One, CBBC and BBC iPlayer, the project is an adaptation of a children’s book written by David Walliams that hit retail in 2021. It’s also a sequel to BBC One’s 2013 movie Gangsta Granny (pictured, 70 minutes).

Walliams and Kevin Cecil are writing the new film’s script, with Rosemary McGowan producing and Nick Leadbitter co-producing. Jo Sargent will serve as an executive producer, and Dan Zeff is directing.

Other Walliams kidlit titles that have been optioned for TV by the Beeb include Mr Stink (2012), The Boy in the Dress (2014), Billionaire Boy (2016) and The Midnight Gang (2018).
