Disney Branded TV has ordered a live-action adaptation of Jen Malone’s 2016 tween novel The Sleepover (Simon & Schuster) from Imagine Kids+Family, a division of LA’s Imagine Entertainment.
The coming-of-age comedy, titled The Slumber Party follows a squad of teen girls who can’t seem to remember what happened the night before at their sleepover party. The group must find answers fast—from locating the missing birthday girl, to figuring out why the bathtub is filled with ducklings.
Veronica Rodriguez (Chicken Girls) is directing the project, with Eydie Faye (Fuller House) writing the script.
The Slumber Party will be executive produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (Who Are You, Charlie Brown?), along with Stephanie Sperber and Jennilee Cummings from the kids & family division. Jake Fuller, Tony Hernandez and John Hodges from Imagine-owned Jax Media (Emily in Paris) are also attached as producers.
This new pic joins several other live-action films in the Disney Branded TV pipeline, including Out of My Mind and The Pocketwatch. Earlier this month, the company promoted four execs to help oversee its growing slate of content.
While Imagine Kids+Family launched live-action TV series The Astronauts in 2020 with Nickelodeon, this project will mark its first feature film release, according to a release. The prodco has teamed up with Nick on several other titles in the past, from stop-motion series The Tiny Chef Show, to upcoming NFT-based preschool series Bossy Bear, which was greenlit in April.
