Disney Branded TV (DBT) has upped four executives to lead its Original Movies team as the division ramps up its slate of kids and family films.
Amee Dolleman and Charles Pugliese (pictured upper left and bottom left) are now VPs of original movies, with Mahita Penke and Jennifer Dubin (pictured upper right and bottom right) both moving up into executive director of original movies positions.
The four execs will take up expanded responsibilities to help oversee up to a dozen projects that are part of a growing slate of productions for Disney+ and Disney Channel, ranging from book adaptations to sequels designed to extend established IPs.
Dolleman, Pugliese and Dubin will all report to original movies SVP Lauren Kisilevsky, with Penke to be managed by the newly minted VPs.
Dolleman (Sneakerella) and Pugliese (Under Wraps) joined Disney as executive directors in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Dollemon previously served as director of production at LA’s Fox 2000 Pictures (27 Dresses), while Pugliese started his career in New York at Killer Films (Carol) and has produced several indie titles.
Dolleman is currently overseeing upcoming teen rom-com Prom Pact for Disney+, and Pugliese is supporting projects such as book adaptation Out of My Mind, which was greenlit for Disney+ in May.
Penke (Spin) and Dubin (Sneakerella) joined the DBT team as directors in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Prior to that, Penke headed up creative development for LA’s Skybound Entertainment (The Walking Dead), while Dubin ran her own LA-based studio, Present Pictures (Future Weather).
Up next, Dubin will help steer holiday movie The Naughty Nine to launch on Disney+ and Disney Channel, and Penke is attached to The Pocketwatch, the latest movie in the Descendants franchise that was greenlit in May.
The original movies department was established in 1997. Disney Channel Original Movies (or DCOMs) are ranked as some of the most-viewed cable TV programs with tweens. Songs featured in DCOM titles stemming from popular franchises such as High School Musical and Descendents account for more than 50 million units in soundtrack and music sales, according to Disney.
