Italian broadcaster Boing, a joint venture between RTI Mediaset and Warner Bros. Discovery, has ordered the live-action game show Wild Things – kids edition for kids and families.

The series is an adaptation of the Wild Things (pictured) format, inspired by the classic kids book, Where the Wild Things Are, and is produced by France’s Banijay. In it, four teams compete doing various challenges in the forest, often wearing bulky and hard-to-see-through animal costumes.

The format adaptation will see the program featuring kids between eight and 12-years-old alongside their costumed adult team members.

The original show was created by Glasgow-based IWC Media, part of Banijay, Mad Monk and GroupM Entertainment. It premiered in 2015 on Sky until 2017 and lasted for three seasons (26 episodes in total). The format has been adapted in eight territories, including Sweden, Argentina and China, but this is the first time it is being adapted for family competitors and audiences.

The popularity of live-action and unscripted for families has been increasing through the pandemic years. In March, Netflix signed a global deal for the streaming rights to Nippon Television’s unscripted series Old Enough!, which has been airing in Japan for more than 30 years. The series made waves when it debuted this spring, surprising North American audiences with Japanese toddlers completing mundane adult tasks on their own. It also had a hit this spring with Is It Cake?, a family-friendly baking competition show that stayed in the streamers’ US Top 10 list for a month.
