Apple TV+ has revealed its fall lineup of new content, featuring a robust kids lineup targeting the space between preschool and teen.
Children make a big leap from preschool series to tween series without much in between and the streamer is filling that gap with 90’s-style series as inspiration, which families can enjoy together without anyone feeling like it is too young or too old.
Starting on the younger end of the spectrum, Apple’s previously unannounced series include Slumberkins from LA’s The Jim Henson Company, Circuit Breakers from Paris’s Cottonwood Media and Toronto’s Aircraft Pictures and Interrupting Chicken (pictured) from Ottawa’s Mercury Filmworks.
CG animation and puppet series Slumberkins is based on the kids’ emotional learning brand of the same name. It focuses on some of the issues that children face such as change, self-confidence, bullying and uncertainty. Henson’s president of television Halle Stanford and Rockwell are the executive producers of the show, which will premiere on November 4.
Half-hour series Circuit Breakers addresses children’s issues through a sci-fi lens and will be released on November 11. Andrew Orenstein produces the series, along with Cottonwood Media’s Sarah Haasz, David Michel and Cécile Lauritano, Aircraft Pictures’ Anthony Leo, Andrew Rosen, and Todd Berger.
Meanwhile, preschool series Interrupting Chicken is based on David Ezra Stein’s book series and about a curious chicken who has the habit of interrupting stories and imagining the details of them. Ron Holsey serves as executive producer, in collaboration with Mercury Filmworks. The series will be released on November 18.
Kicking off the fall season with a first wave of programming through September and early October are Sago Mini Friends from Spin Master on the younger-kids side, plus the return of a wave of bridge and tween series including Ghostwriter; Wolfboy and the Everything Factory; Get Rolling with Otis and musical Hello, Jack! The Kindness Show. In July, the streamer also added the book adaptations Duck & Goose, Best Foot Forward and Life By Ella to its lineup.
