UK-based Jetpack Distribution has inked deals with broadcasters in the UK and Europe for more than 760 half hours of content, with preschool series Chuggington leading the pack.
IFC Media in Czech Republic and Slovakia, Danish pubcaster DR and Latvia pubcaster LTV all picked up various seasons of the CG-animated series about a young team of trains. Meanwhile, nature-based shows for preschoolers, such as Ladybird and Bee and Critters TV, also captured the interest of kidcasters. As for older tween-skewing viewers, comedies like Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed! entered more markets alongside the Spookiz franchise, just in time for Halloween.
Series with hybrid and unique animation styles such as My Petsaurus (live-action/CG-animation) and Welcome to Cardboard City (CG-animation/cardboard art style) scored multiple pickups, while French 2D-animated series Wolf and The Sisters found traction with buyers well. Jetpack also found homes for international co-pros like Brazil and India’s Oswaldo as well as Spain and China’s Emmy & GooRoo.
Shows nabbing multiple buyers include:
Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed! (104 x 11 minutes; CG-animated): Norway pubcaster NRK renewed the rights for the first season of the series while the Baltic channel Kidzone TV acquired VOD rights for two seasons. Dennis & Gnasher follows the hijinks of a young boy, his dog and friends. The series is produced by London-based Beano Studios and is inspired by the famous Dennis the Menace comic strip.
Kitty is Not a Cat (130 x 11 minutes; 2D-animated): Jetpack sold the first season of this series (pictured) to two broadcasters: Hungary’s TV2 and the Baltic channel Kidzone TV. The quirky toon is produced by Aussie studio BES Animation, and centers on a group of party-loving felines who are suddenly tasked with taking care of a human girl named Kitty.
Oswaldo (52 x 11 minutes; 2D-animated): AMC Networks International Central & Northern Europe has picked up the series for the pay TV channel Minimax. Over in the UK, pubcaster BBC has acquired the first season. Featuring a pop culture-obsessed penguin adopted by a human family, the series is a co-pro from São Paulo-based Birdo Studios and India’s Symbiosys Entertainment.
Spookiz (101 x 2.5 minutes; CG-animated): Slovakia’s TV Joj has picked up the series alongside broadcaster IFC Media (Czech Republic and Slovakia), which has bought pay TV rights to four seasons. Meanwhile, the BBC has picked up Spookiz: The Movie, an 83-minute film that released in 2019. The franchise, created by South Korean studio Keyring Co., follows a (literal) monstrous group of friends comprising a vampire, goblin, zombie, ghost and even Frankenstein’s monster.
