UK-based tonies is partnering with The Roald Dahl Story company for the first time to launch a new wave of interactive toys featuring the British author’s iconic characters and stories.
Users can place these figures on the Toniebox, an audio system that will play related stories and music. The first range of toys—based on kidlit classics Matilda, James and the Giant Peach and The Witches—will launch throughout the year starting on July 28, and they’ll be available through the toyco’s online stores in the US and UK for US$14.99. Figures for additional titles will be released next year.
Each Roald Dahl tale is narrated by a different celebrity, including actor Kate Winslet (Matilda) and comedians James Acaster (James and the Giant Peach) and Lolly Adefope (The Witches).
Tonies Co-CEOs Patric Fassbender and Marcus Stahl founded the company in 2016 and created the Toniebox as a screen-free way to entertain and educate kids ages three and up.
Since launch, the toyco has released more than 300 different Tonies figures, including Simba from The Lion King, Elmo from Sesame Street and Chase from PAW Patrol. According to a release, tonies has sold more than 3.5 million Tonieboxes and upwards of 44 million figures to date.
