The Jim Henson Company has partnered with Oregon’s A Kids Company About to co-produce a new mixed-media series for six to 11s called A Kids Show About.

Based on an 80-title book series, the TV show’s 22-minute episodes will feature live-action segments, animation and puppet vignettes. Topics haven’t been nailed down yet, but racism and climate change are among the issues explored in the Kids Book About titles. The goal of the adaptation project is to teach more children and families how to have conversations about difficult subjects.

Kids are aware of these social issues, which creates an opportunity for producers to provide reliable information and resources, said Henson SVP of animation and mixed media Sidney Clifton in a release.

Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford are on board as executive producers, along with Jelani Memory and Dan Ilani from A Kids Company About, and Clifton is overseeing development.

The Kids Book About series is written by a variety of authors, including financial coaches, high school students and retired NFL coaches. After the Uvalde, Texas elementary school massacre on May 24, e-book A Kids Book About School Shootings (published in 2021) was downloaded more than 30,000 times, according to A Kids Company About.
