Toronto-based Guru Studio has kicked off production on Sesame Workshop’s Charlotte’s Web miniseries for HBO Max.
The CG-animated series is based on the E.B. White book of the same name published in 1952 by Harper & Brothers. The classic story centers on the friendship between barnyard pig Wilbur and Charlotte, a spider who lives in the same barn. It has been adapted a number of times, including Sagittarius and Hanna-Barbera’s 1973 animated musical and the 2006 live-action film co-produced by Nickelodeon Movies, LA-based Walden Media and The K Entertainment Company.
The miniseries was announced earlier this year and is slated for release in 2024. Details on the miniseries’ format were not released, but it will be targeted at a kids and family audience.
Charlotte’s Web is the second collaboration between Guru and Sesame, following the recent Sesame Street animated spinoff Mecha Builders. Created with an emphasis on STEM learning, the CG-animated series features a high-tech reimagining of popular characters Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby as robot superheroes-in-training.
Mecha Builders premiered earlier this year on Warner Bros. Discovery’s preschool programming block Cartoonito on Cartoon Network and HBO Max.
