CAKE is teaming up with Slovenian studio Invida to produce a new CG-animated concept called The Lost Bots that made its market debut at Annecy this week. The 78 x seven-minute non-dialogue series is about alien robots who crash-land on Earth and must try to survive on an uncharted tropical island with no technology.

Boris Dolenc (Talking Tom the Movie) is the project’s creative lead, with Outfit7’s Jan Drenovec art directing, and Invida’s Matic Percic overseeing animation director and Jernej Zmitek directing. The series will be animated in “hyperreal” 3D using Unreal Engine technology.

Invida has released eight animated indie films and a variety of shorter-form animation projects to date, ranging from short film Mouse House to miniseries Muri the Cat.

In other news, Kidscreen has confirmed that SVP of production Rob Doherty has left CAKE after more than four years. Doherty started at the company in 2018 as VP of production, and was promoted to SVP in 2021 to oversee a production pipeline that includes Mush-Mush & the Mushables for Cartoon Network and Mama K’s 4 Team and Angry Birds: Summer Madness for Netflix.
