Moonbug Entertainment has acquired Singapore-based studio One Animation, the creator behind non-dialogue comedy series Oddbods. This is Moonbug’s second acquisition since being acquired itself by LA’s Candle Media last year; the company bought the Little Angel YouTube network in February.
Moonbug will take over production and creative strategy for the Oddbods show, and it also plans to expand the global footprint of the brand by moving it into new formats, consumer products and experiences.
Post-acquisition, One Animation’s team will join Moonbug and continue to develop and produce the projects it has in development in Singapore, including animated series Abigail’s Tales, which is based on a children’s book series with the same name.
“Acquiring One Animation gives us the opportunity to expand Moonbug across Asia and grow the company’s portfolio of family-friendly brands,” said Candle Media co-CEOs Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs in a press release.
Since launching in August 2014, Oddbods has aired in more than 180 countries and is currently running on major global networks including Disney, Cartoon Network and Netflix, according to One Animation. The brand also has a presence on digital content platforms like YouTube, where it has amassed 32 million subscribers and averages 350 million monthly views.
This news follows yesterday’s announcement that Moonbug has partnered with Florida-based live entertainment company Falcon’s Beyond to develop location-based edutainment experiences worldwide around brands including CoComelon and Blippi.
And for its part, Candle Media acquired LA-based prodco Exile Content Studio yesterday. Exile is focused on developing Spanish-language content and recently partnered with Spanish artist Edgar Plans to adapt his Lil’ Heroes NFT brand into an animated series, licensed merch and digital products.
