Owl Diaries, the bestselling Scholastic book series penned by Rebecca Elliott, has been optioned by Apple TV+ as an animated series.
Scholastic Entertainment will produce Eva the Owlet, with animation work from Ireland’s Brown Bag Films, but there are no details yet about the project’s animation style, format or release date.
The book series spans 16 titles for five- to eight-year-olds, and has sold six million copies worldwide in eight foreign languages. It tells the story of Eva Wingdale—a creative and cheeky owl with big ideas and a big personality to match—who lives in Treetopington with her best friend next door.
Iole Lucchese (Clifford the Big Red Dog), Caitlin Friedman (Caster) and Jef Kaminsky (Stillwater) will serve as EPs on the animated series, which will feature original songs by Michael Fitzpatrick, lead vocalist of indie pop band Fitz and the Tantrums.
Eva the Owlet joins other series such as Stillwater and Hello, Jack: The Kindness Show in Apple TV+ kids changemakers initiative. Through collaborations with education leaders and storytellers, the program aims to promote confidence and critical thinking in kids.
