Apple TV+ has ordered a new animated series for preschoolers from Spin Master, based on the popular Sago Mini Friends app it acquired when the company bought Toca Boca in 2016.
With animation work from 9 Story Media Group’s Dublin-based studio Brown Bag Films, the series will revolve around app character Harvey the floppy-eared dog and his three best friends as they play and explore their colorful town of Sagoville.
Executive producers include Spin Master’s Jennifer Dodge, Ronnen Harary, Laura Clunie and Toni Stevens; Tone Thyne from Fablevision and Dustin Ferrer (Esme and Roy). And Brown Bag Films’ Chad Hicks is on board as the series director.
The Sago Mini World app launched in May 2017 and now features more than 40 games designed to teach kids ages two to five how to develop emotional intelligence, solve problems creatively and build self-confidence.
Digital games including Sago Mini World and Toca Life World were key drivers for Spin Master in Q1 2021, helping the toyco’s games division increase its quarterly revenue by 178.5% to US$61 million from the previous year.
