Genius Brands’ Kartoon Channel! is expanding its digital distribution in the US with a significant upgrade on The Roku Channel.
Kartoon was previously only offered as an app on Roku devices, but it will now be available on the platform’s FAST lineup as a channel. According to Genius Brands, Roku’s reach was sitting at 80 million people in US households as of Q4 2021.
Over the last two years, Kartoon’s rapid growth has been marked by a series of launches in international territories (LatAm, MENA, Australia) and several key hires and promotions.
Meanwhile, Roku has been steadily expanding its kids and family programming, adding content from Moonbug’s CoComelon YouTube channel in 2020 to an existing lineup highlighted by Care Bears, Thomas & Friends and Super Mario Brothers. The addition of Kartoon’s lineup will see Stan Lee’s Superhero Kindergarten (pictured), trivia show KC! Pop Quiz and CG-animated series Rainbow Rangers also join Roku’s offering for children.
In a press release, Kartoon Channel! president Jon Ollwerther noted that the kidsnet has established a significant presence in the US on platforms like Comcast, Amazon Prime, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Android TV, Android Mobile and Google Play.
Genius Brands has also just entered the metaverse with the April 15 launch of Kartoon Channel! Kidaverse, offering exclusive content to subscribers.
