Superheroes, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo walked away with top honors from Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2022 as the show set a new record with 1,000 “slimings” and explored the metaverse with celebrity avatars.

Hosted by iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove and NFL player Rob Gronkowski, this year’s ceremony was held on April 9 in Santa Monica, California. US First Lady Jill Biden made an appearance at the show to speak on the resilience of youth in America.

Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was a top winner in television, walking away with Favorite Kids TV Show, Favorite Female TV Star (Olivia Rodrigo), and Favorite Male TV Star (Joshua Bassett).

After a quiet 2020, Marvel Studios came swinging in 2021 with four movies and a notable foray into television. Disney+ shows WandaVision, Hawkeye, and Loki scored two nominations each with Tom Hiddleston winning Favorite Male TV Star (Family) for his portrayal of the beloved God of Mischief. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home dominated the movie categories, picking up Favorite Movie as well as Favorite Movie Actor (Tom Holland) and Favorite Movie Actress (Zendaya).

Female Gen-Z artists were a strong presence in the music categories where Rodrigo emerged as Favorite Breakout Star, Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever won both Favorite Song and Favorite Album, and Dixie D’Amelio picked up a Favorite Social Music Star award. K-Pop group BTS also won Favorite Music Group for the second year in a row.
