LA’s Skydance Animation has inked a multi-year agreement making Spin Master its master toy licensee.

The first Skydance property to launch under the new partnership will be Apple TV+ film Spellbound (pictured). Spin Master is creating dolls and vehicles based on the musical adventure pic, which centers on a young girl who goes on a journey to break a spell that has divided her kingdom. The film’s release date has not yet been set.

The Toronto-based company also has the rights to develop toy lines for several other upcoming Skydance films, but the partners are not sharing which titles will be next up for licensing & merchandising.

Skydance hired former Walt Disney exec Luis Fernández as its first head of consumer products last year, with a remit to set and execute the studio’s licensing and retail strategy.

Since launching in 2017, Skydance Animation has been busy working on a pipeline of kids movies and series. Last year, it signed an overall deal with Apple that came with an order for animated sci-fi series The Search for WondLA. And Apple TV+ is set to debut Skydance feature Luck this year, featuring the unluckiest girl in the world as she embarks on a quest to change her fortunes in the Land of Luck.

Last week, the studio also announced an exclusive, multi-year deal with Oscar-winning Zootopia and Wreck-It-Ralph director Rich Moore, who will create, develop and produce original animated features for Skydance.
