Common Sense Networks’ ad-supported streaming service Sensical has picked up five kids podcasts from audio company PRX.
Available on Sensical now are the Molly of Denali and Pinkalicious & Perteriffic audio series it made with PBS KIDS and GBH Kids; Live from Mount Olympus (pictured), which tells versions of Greek myths for kids; Timestorm, a time-travel series in which twins are pulled through history to learn about their Puerto Rican heritage; and The Genius Generation, highlighting the young people behind scientific discoveries, businesses and interesting innovations.
These are the latest podcasts to launch on Sensical since the platform for two- to 10-year-olds rolled out its first slate of kids audio content in December, built around themes of adventure, trivia and education. That initial offering included Pinna’s 5 for 5 Trivia, select episodes of Rebel Girls’ Good Night Stories and Eric O’Keeffe’s What if World.
Conversation in the kids podcast market is starting to shift from making content to finding ways to monetize it. Last week, audio-first company Wonkybot spoke to Kidscreen about a new strategy for franchising its Tara Tremendous IP through spinoffs and adaptations based on the characters in Tara’s audio world. Meanwhile, podcast creators now have another port of call with the launch of a new subscription service from Amazon podcast studio Wondery on Apple Podcasts.
Sensical, which launched in June 2021, now features more than 15,000 videos for kids, including recent acquisitions such as Thomas & Friends from Mattel, Jim Henson’s Animal Show with Stinky and Jake and The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss.
