Writer, producer and director Latoya Raveneau is making Disney her creative home.
The director of Disney+ series The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and executive producer of Rise Up, Sing Out has signed an overall deal to develop and produce animated projects exclusively with Disney Television Animation and 20th Television Animation.
Raveneau will work on kids and family projects for Disney Television Animation, and on adult-targeted projects for 20th Television Animation (formerly Fox). Her deal includes a pilot that’s currently in development at Disney, and terms for live-action content as well.
In addition to her work on The Proud Family reboot, Raveneau works as an executive producer with musicians Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter on Rise Up, Sing Out, an animated series of music-based shorts currently airing on Disney+, Disney Channel and Disney Junior. She is also the screenwriter for upcoming musical series Eureka!, which is set to premiere later this year on Disney Junior.
Raveneau focuses on representation and mentorship in her work and has appeared in Disney Channel’s “Reimagine Tomorrow” interstitial to have a conversation with teen human rights activist Yolanda Renee King, the granddaughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In other major news from the House of Mouse this week, Muppets Mayhem has been greenlit as a 10-ep comedy that will be produced by The Muppets Studio, which is jointly owned by ABC Signature and Disney.
Starring the iconic Henson characters and comedy personality Lilly Singh, the series centers around The Electric Mayhem Band, an aging rock band coming to terms with the reality of a comeback after 45 years. Singh plays human lead Nora, a junior executive assigned to manage the band in this concept developed by Adam Goldberg, Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes.
