WarnerMedia Kids & Family is gearing up for the NBA All-Star weekend with a new comedy-driven sports special called Cartoon Network Special Edition: NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest Presented by Nike.
The stars of Warner Bros. Animation’s popular CN superhero series Teen Titans GO! are on deck to host the half-hour special direct from TNT’s Inside the NBA studios. Its segments will include humorous analysis of the AT&T dunk contest, dunk replays enhanced by animated overlays and zany sound effects, and surprise guest appearances by beloved Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios characters.
The ad-free program will air on February 20 at 5:00 p.m. ET, less than 24 hours after the live dunk contest on TNT and three hours before the NBA All-Star Game presented by Kia.
Starting on February 19, CN will run Teen Titans GO! marathons over the weekend, culminating with the premiere of a new episode from the series on February 21.
Warner’s latest special echoes Nickelodeon’s one-time CBS simulcast of NFL Wildcard Game on Nickelodeon last year. The stunt program featured guest reporters, original animation and AR filters such as cannons that shot slime when a touchdown was scored. It was Nick’s most-watched program from the past four years, netting more than two million viewers, and it also generated more than two billion social media impressions.
The success of the special led to a new weekly live-action series called NFL Slimetime, produced by Nick, CBS Sports and the National Football League.
