Genius Brands names revenue and marketing head

Former Disney exec Todd Steinman has been named chief revenue and marketing officer for GBI’s new streamer Kartoon Channel! Kidaverse.

Genius Brands International (GBI) has appointed Todd Steinman as chief revenue and marketing officer for its subscription streaming service Kartoon Channel! Kidaverse. Reporting to president Jon Ollwerther, he will focus on driving growth.

Steinman joins GBI from The Walt Disney Company, where he served as VP of media and entertainment solutions and insights. And before that, he co-founded digital media agency M80 and worked in several roles at Warner Bros. Records.

GBI announced the impending rollout of Kartoon Channel! Kidaverse earlier this month. Featuring more than 20,000 animated kids titles, the SVOD will launch April 15 on both Apple and Google Play for US$3.99 per month.

GBI went on a real acquisitions spree in the lead up to introducing this new platform. Earlier this year, it acquired Canadian streaming service Ameba TV, picked up Wow! Unlimited in October, and acquired a stake in Your Family Entertainment in December.

This hire follows the departure of Harold Chizick and Jennifer Chizick, the founders of GBI-owned marketing agency ChizComm.
