Sinking Ship Entertainment and Paper Owl Films are bringing Sophie Kinsella‘s 2015 novel Finding Audrey to screen in a new mixed-media film that will be available in 2024 for streaming and television.

The family movie centers around a teenage girl who suffers from social anxiety disorder after being bullied at school. Unable to leave her home, Audrey chooses to hide from the outside world. The prodcos will co-develop the project together, with Northern Ireland-based Paper Owl managing production and Canada’s Sinking Ship handling international distribution. Production is set to begin in early 2023, featuring a mix of live action, animation and special effects.

Finding Audrey‘s story is inspirational for post-lockdown audiences, says Paper Owl’s creative director Grainne McGuinness. “We want the film to convey [Kinsella’s] empowering message that young people are not defined by mental illness or their recovery, [while also] creating an enjoyable viewing experience for a wider audience.”

This is the third film adaptation of Kinsella’s novels, following romcoms Shopaholic (2009) and Can You Keep a Secret? (2019).
