Sound the alarm, because Disney Junior has greenlit first responder-focused show Firebuds. The animated comedy-adventure targets kids ages two to seven and will premiere on Disney Junior and Disney+ in 2022.

Firebuds follows a team of kids—who are all the children of first responders such as firefighter and paramedic—as they work with their talking vehicle sidekicks to help their neighbors. Each episode includes two x 11-minute stories and at least one original song.

A Disney Television Animation production, the series comes from creator and executive producer Craig Gerber and is the first show under his overall development deal with Disney Branded Television through his production banner Electric Emu. Additionally, Gerber has a second project in development with Kris Wimberly that stars a time-traveling treasure hunter.

Francis Giglio (DC Super Hero Girls) is the art director for Firebuds, while Rob Pratt and Craig Simpson (both from Elena of Avalor) will serve as supervising director and producer, respectively. Wimberly and Julius Aguimatang are episodic directors. Matt Hoverman will serve as story editor and the writing team is made up of Krystal Banzon, Leanna Dindal, Jeremy Shipp and Norma Sepulveda.

Gerber has a long history with the House of Mouse as he previously steered the Disney Junior show Sofia the First and its spinoff Elena of Avalor.
