Xilam Animation has named Simba Dickie Group as master global toy partner for its CG preschool series Oggy Oggy. The German toyco’s first offering will include push, figurines, playsets, vehicles and collectibles.
The consumer products program will target kids ages three to six and hit shelves in France, Italy, Germany and the UK in fall 2022 before expanding to Poland and Spain in spring 2023.
Oggy Oggy (156 x seven minutes) is a spinoff of the French Animation studio’s Oggy and the Cockroaches franchise. The non-dialogue preschool show stars a young Oggy living in a fantasy world inhabited by cats. Oggy Oggy premiered globally on Netflix in August and is set to launch with broadcasters like France Télévisions, Discovery (Italy) and Super RTL (Germany) in September 2022.
Moving forward, Xilam plans to expand the consumer products program to include categories like games, publishing and apparel.
The Oggy and the Cockroaches franchise first launched in 1998 with the titular animated series. A slapstick comedy, Oggy and the Cockroaches has aired on Gulli and Canal J in France, as well as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel in various territories.
In addition to the preschool iteration Oggy Oggy, Xilam is further expanding the franchise with the reboot Oggy—Next Gen. The 78 x seven-minute series targets kids ages six to 10 and follows Oggy as he takes care of his friend’s daughter, a seven-year-old elephant named Piya. Oggy—Next Gen was picked up by Netflix as an original series and was also acquired by Gulli and M6 (France), Discovery and DeAKids (Italy), and VRT kids channel Ketnet (Belgium).
