HBO Max, Cartoon Network fly with Dodo

Originally commissioned by Sky Kids, Wildseed's coming-of-age comedy figures into WarnerMedia's acquisition spree.

WarnerMedia Kids & Family has picked up Dodo from Bristol-based Wildseed Studios to air on HBO Max and Cartoon Network in the US starting next year.

UK broadcaster Sky Kids originally ordered the 2D-animated comedy (20 x 10 minutes) in April for a June premiere. Created and directed by Jack Bennett, Dodo is intended for kids ages six to 12 and stars a young teen boy who always finds himself in embarrassing situations, like losing his pants or texting the wrong person.

Wildseed produces the show with UK-based Birkdale Film and Television, India’s Toonz Media Group and Ireland’s Telegael. London-based distributor CAKE reps Dodo internationally and inked the deal with WarnerMedia. It will also be shopping the series at MIPCOM next week, with the goal of closing more international sales.

Dodo will be in good company in WarnerMedia’s stable, joining recent acquisitions including Sixteen South’s Odo (52 x seven), which was originally greenlit by Channel 5’s preschool block Milkshake; and Boat Rocker’s preschool series Love Monster, commissioned by the BBC and China’s UYoung in 2019.
