The Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) is adapting book series Karma and Jonar into a same-name 3D-animated show for its Viaplay streaming service.

Viaplay Studios is animating the eight x 12-minute adventure series for seven- to nine-year-olds, and it will premiere exclusively on the streamer in 2022. Karma and Jonar follows the titular characters on a journey through the fantasy land of Gilmeria.

First released in 2019, the graphic book series spans five titles written by Swedish author Zelda Falköga and illustrated by Henric Aryee.

Karma and Jonar is Viaplay Studios’ first project since reorganizing and amalgamating its internal production companies into NENT earlier this month, with the goal of delivering original live-action and animated content exclusively for the streamer.

Ahead of Viaplay’s international rollout in 2022 and 2023, NENT has been loading up its kids slate, recently greenlighting an adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s Ronja the Robber’s Daughter and picking up 500 episodes from Stockholm distributor SF. It also teamed up with Moonbug on Little Baby Bum spinoff Mia’s Magic Playground.
