Apple TV+ has ordered a new live-action show from Toronto’s Boat Rocker Media based on the bestselling Amber Brown book series (pictured).
Actor and director Bonnie Hunt (The Bonnie Hunt Show) will serve as writer, director and showrunner on the 10 x 30-minute adaptation of Paula Danziger’s middle-grade book series. Boat Rocker kids and family EVP Bob Higgins and president Jon Rutherford are executive producing alongside Hunt.
Aimed at kids ages six to 11, Amber Brown is about a young girl who learns how to express herself through art and music after her parents’ divorce. No premiere has been announced yet.
Danziger’s first Amber Brown title was published in 1994, and the series has sold more than 10 million copies in 53 countries to date.
This new show fits into Apple TV+’s broader content strategy of stocking up on popular existing brands. The streamer recently inked a deal with WildBrain for musical series Yo Gabba Gabba!, having already ordered a wide range of new and existing Peanuts content from the prodco. It has also picked several shows and specials based on popular brands including Harriet the Spy and Maurice Sendak’s books.
