Amazon podcast studio Wondery is accelerating its growth plan in the kids space with a new subscription service.
Launching exclusively on Apple Podcasts today, Wondery+ Kids (US$4.99 monthly) is aimed at four- to 12-year-olds and includes original series such as Little Stories Everywhere and Imagined Life Family. It will also offer new show Melon’s House Party (pictured), which launches on October 6.
Content from kids podcast specialist Tinkercast—which Wondery acquired last month—is also rolling out on the service, including Wow in the World; Who, When Wow!, premiering tomorrow; and Flip and Mozi’s Guide to How to Be an Earthling, which drops on November 11.
And making the most of its Amazon connection, Wondery’s kids service will feature Amazon-owned Audible originals such as Grandma for President, The Jungle Book: The Mowgli Stories and Highlights Mystery Theater as well.
Best known for adult-skewing audio series like Dr. Death and Business Wars, Wondery kicked off its push into kids content last month when it tapped former Warner Bros. exec Nicole Blake as head of franchise development. This new focus leans into a growing market for screen-free, family-friendly audio content. Kids have been flocking to podcasts throughout the pandemic, with 48% of 13- to 17-year-olds in the US listening to one in 2020, according to data from Statista. The researcher also found that almost a third (32%) of kids ages nine to 12, and 20% of six to eights, listened to a podcast last year.
