WarnerMedia is planning to expand The Amazing World of Gumball with a new movie and TV series for Cartoon Network and HBO Max.

The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie (working title) and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Series (working title) will continue the adventures that began in the original show (pictured), which ran for six seasons on Cartoon Network from 2011 to 2019. WarnerMedia’s TV animation studio Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe will take the lead on both projects—its first since rebranding in April.

Animated in CG, the film will serve up a conclusion to the 240 x 11-minute original show and lay a foundation for the new series. It was first announced in February and will center around a group of superfans who end up in Gumball’s world, where they have to help stop an evil force from taking over the city. Gumball creator Ben Bocquelet is serving as an executive producer and director on the film. Shane Mack (Coffee and Kareem) wrote the script. and Sam Register, Vanessa Brookman and Sarah Fell are also executive producing. No further details about the new series concept were available at press time.

Original series The Amazing World of Gumball follows the wild (and often fourth-wall-breaking) adventures 12-year-old Gumball Watterson has with his family and animal friends. Featuring a unique mixed-media style, it aired in more than 126 countries and won various awards during its run, including an International Emmy, nine BAFTA Children’s Awards and three Annie Awards.
